Big day for El Guaje
NYCFC star striker David Villa surpassed the 50-goal mark in his short MLS career, doing so in his 78th match as NYCFC beat the Seattle Sounders 2-1 in the pouring rain at Yankee Stadium. He actually scored both goals in the match and now has 51, an impressive mark for the league’s top striker. Take a look at the 50th goal, a fine PK.
Tim Howard, big again
It hasn’t been the best of starts to the season for the Colorado Rapids. A contender in the Western Conference last season, the team is 10th out of 11 teams so far in 2017 with 16 points after 14 matches. But they would be even lower without Tim Howard. Though the team is near the bottom of the conference, it isn’t because of its defense. Howard’s club has allowed just 19 goals, a mark that only two teams in the West are superior. Saves like this show how important he is for Colorado.
Goal of the week
Speaking of Colorado, how about Dominique Badji, who brought his team level at 1-1 with Portland on Saturday with the best goal of the week. Check out this lovely, cheeky chip for the goal:
